Electrical Designer Opportunity – Heavy Industrial (All Levels)
(Richmond area) - Full-time
We are partnering with a leading heavy industrial engineering firm to find an entrepreneurial, hands-on Electrical Designer (junior, mid, or senior level) for their growing design team. This full-time, direct hire role offers strong growth potential, diverse project exposure, and the chance to deliver designs that become real plant-floor solutions.
Perform electrical design for heavy industrial projects, including power distribution, machine control, and instrumentation & controls.
Translate NEC and NFPA code requirements into safe, compliant, cost-effective designs.
Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Clients to develop practical, constructible solutions.
Develop electrical power, controls, and instrumentation integration concepts through to final construction documents.
Prepare construction cost estimates, materials lists, and obtain vendor quotations.
Support schedules, specifications, and design concepts alongside engineering leadership.
Conduct fieldwork to locate and identify electrical components, instrumentation, and related equipment.
Participate in constructability reviews and understand field construction phases.
Maintain accurate project design files, including vendor documentation and calculation sheets.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of all deliverables in your area of responsibility.
Coordinate design tasks within the team and track budget/schedule across multiple active projects.
Experience in the heavy industrial field.
Proficiency with AutoCAD; 3D CAD experience preferred.
Associate’s degree in a relevant field or applicable certifications preferred.
Bentley MicroStation experience is a plus.
Experience in an industrial chemical processing environment is a plus.
Ability to read power and motor control circuits.
Experience with power, controls, and/or instrumentation design (conduit sizing, loop diagrams, signals/communications integrations).
Field experience locating and identifying electrical and instrumentation equipment.
Knowledge of grounding requirements and practical applications for instrumentation and electrical equipment.
Working knowledge of hazardous areas (Class I and Class II).
Demonstrated experience applying NEC and NFPA code requirements in designs.
Experience with project construction and design-hours cost estimating.
