Job Title: Controls Engineer
Location: Plano, TX
Overview:
This position is focused on the creation, deployment, and upkeep of automated control systems that drive the functionality of complex machinery used in baked goods manufacturing. The engineer in this role will work with both the hardware and software components of industrial automation, supporting innovation and efficiency in production processes.
Control System Design & Architecture
Devise and implement logic and algorithms for automated food production lines, including equipment like ovens, conveyors, proofers, and packaging units.
Develop and configure automation infrastructure utilizing tools such as PLCs, SCADA interfaces, and HMIs.
Participate in or lead the electrical layout and drafting of control panel systems and circuit diagrams.
Programming & Commissioning
Code and debug programmable logic controllers (PLCs) using platforms like Siemens or Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley preferred).
Integrate control programs with electronic hardware components to ensure optimal performance and coordination.
Testing & Deployment
Perform in-depth system evaluations and validations, both in-house and on-site, to detect and correct technical challenges.
Support equipment launches, including Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT) at client locations.
Team Collaboration & Documentation
Work closely with professionals across engineering disciplines and project teams to define project deliverables.
Maintain comprehensive records of system design, software logic, hardware specs, and validation procedures for operational and regulatory purposes.
Process Optimization & Innovation
Monitor advancements in automation technologies and apply new techniques to improve system functionality and production efficiency.
Aid in the establishment and refinement of engineering protocols and internal technical standards.
Educational Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a comparable technical field.
Professional Experience:
A minimum of two years in control system engineering, with a preference for experience in manufacturing automation or food equipment.
Senior-level roles may require between 5–8+ years of experience in a related setting.
Technical Expertise:
Skilled in PLC programming, particularly with platforms like Allen-Bradley or Siemens.
Familiar with interface and SCADA tools such as FactoryTalk View, Ignition, or Wonderware.
Proficient in reading and creating electrical diagrams and using design tools like AutoCAD Electrical.
Understanding of industrial automation components such as sensors, actuators, and motion control systems.
Knowledgeable in industrial networking protocols like Ethernet/IP and Profinet.
Strong troubleshooting capabilities with control systems and electrical setups.
Interpersonal and Organizational Skills:
Strong analytical and logical thinking abilities.
Capable of creating clear and concise technical documents.
Comfortable working both independently and within cross-functional teams.
Well-organized and attentive to detail.
Open to travel for system installations, testing, and client support as project demands dictate.
